Family above all

Today being a Saturday I didn’t need to contact my riding group, The Backout Boys, if there is a ride. Weekends are the group’s riding days.

Some of us have prior commitments on this day, though, and instead of pedaling all the way to Sta. Rosa, with one of us already informing the group he will have to bail out and go home at a certain time wherever we are, we all just decided to ride the Malipay trails.

Since it’s near and very technical it would satisfy our itch and we will be able to maximize the day — we were able to start trailing early as the trailhead is just a few kilometers away from our usual meeting place.

While in the trail I got a text message from my wife telling me to come home early. Good thing the group opted for the Malipay trails! It would be easier for me to bail out if there are sudden plans of riding anywhere farther.

I witnessed a good friend of mine whom I met through 4-wheeling, and who introduced me to mountain biking, crashed twice while inside Malipay. It just goes to show crashing is part of bike riding. Whether you’re a veteran or a newbie. This friend, Rommel C., has been riding and competing for around 10 years now (not accurate as I’m just guessing) and he crashed in a section of the trail where I now find it easy to navigate. Good thing he wasn’t hurt. After the crash he just stood up, grinned, dusted himself off, then continued riding.

Anyway, another friend of mine, Doc Riz, also had to bail out quite early as he had a patient coming in the morning, so I decided to exit the trail with him, get home to my family (family first above all), and get some good points from the wife!

And I think she appreciated it when I sent her a text message saying I bailed out early so I could come home to them right away… not forgetting to mention the group was still inside the trails ;)
