Back on the saddle, back in the trails!

After almost 2 weeks of no riding I was finally able to ride this afternoon! Only one of the handful of people I invited rode with me, but I didn’t care. The important thing is I’m back on the saddle and back in the trails!

63094_5759We started around 3 P.M. and we just did a fairly quick tour of the Malipay trails and went down to the river to the Tubuhan (bamboo fields). After checking the time we decided to go on forward (I originally planned to climb back up the way we came as this offers a good, fairly steep, twisty, single-track climb).

So carrying our bikes we crossed the river via the boulders and went on our way. More twisty single-tracks and a slight detour for a simple downhill section past the tamarind tree.

As follow the single-track to the fireroad branches from small trees cut by the locals are scattered all over the tracks, threatening to jab the spaces in between the frame tubes, then getting entangled with the moving parts. Grrr!

Once we clear that area the track slowly turns for the worse. What used to be a hard-packed fireroad terrain has been ploughed out by a tractor — and now it’s starting to drizzle But it was actually better once I started looking for a line and doing some groooooovey body language on my bike to keep my balance. HEY, I thought, this easy fireroad now became quite technical! Ha ha!

Upon reaching the junction where we turn back if the track looks real muddy we decided to just go for it, and a passing local informed us of it being passable.

We rode quite fast on the downhill sloping sections. Fun and fast! After a bit of rest we took the trail leading out. Upon reaching the fork I decided to go back in the Malipay trails and pass via the narrow dip with a sudden climb. Last hurrah for the day, and off we went to the trailhead where we’ll also exit.

34.42 kilometers total, from the house, to the trails, and back home. Not bad.

Lets ride tomorrow. You need to pedal more in preparation for the race this coming Saturday. Lets have a quick ride to Tagaytay.
